While other states have considered similar cases, the guidelines issued by the Colorado court are some of the most specific created by any state on the issue, said Glenn Cohen, a Harvard University law professor who specializes in bioethics and the law. The case could eventually make its way to the justices of the U.S. Supreme Court, who would consider one specific question, he wrote in an email.
“Namely, does the Constitution protect a right not to be a genetic parent?” he said.
