Overall, the editors present an intriguing look at the concerns currently facing human subjects research regulation and provide a number of suggestions for how to go about solving some of these problems. While the majority of these concerns have not been addressed in the latest issuance of the NPRM, by starting this conversation and educating others about weaknesses in the current system, we can only continue to move forward with more adaptable regulations over time. As a classroom text, Human Subjects Research Regulation: Perspectives on the Future will provide the thought experiments all researchers should be engaging in, aiming to both answer important research questions and protect the individuals without whom their research would not succeed.
