TRUMP TEAM TAKES ANOTHER STAB AT DRUG PRICES: ARE THEY SERIOUS THIS TIME? — Late last week came two new signs the White House may finally be ready to move beyond rhetoric on drug prices. Details began to trickle out about drug pricing proposals that will be detailed in Monday’s 2019 White House budget request. Some of the ideas are rehashes of plans CMS has already said it is considering; others are fresher. Most lacked a lot of the key nitty gritty details of how they would work in practice.
SO WHAT’S THE VERDICT? — Drug policy watchers say it’s difficult to square the economic advisers’ report with the budget proposal. Because the budget contains suggestions that aren’t in the report and vice versa, “it’s hard to know how seriously to take these proposals,” said Rachel Sachs, a health policy expert at Washington University School of Law in St. Louis.
