Kansas City University of Medicine & Biosciences has an opening for an Assistant Professor of Bioethics.
The ideal candidate will have a relevant terminal degree such as PhD, DMin, JD, EdD or equivalent. A clinical degree (DO, MD, DNP, RN, etc) and experience would be a plus. A minimum of two years post-doctoral experience teaching at the graduate level is required, in areas such as history and philosophy of medicine, clinical or research ethics, and medical humanities. Research, publications, and grant writing experience are highly valued.
The candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with graduate and medical students, faculty, and staff. The candidate must be highly collegial, able to work effectively and efficiently in a team environment. She or he will have communication competencies, both written and oral, with excellent teaching evaluations.
KCU offers a Master of Arts in Bioethics in three degree tracks: a DO/MA dual degree earned over four years, a one-year program, and a career enhancement track where practicing professionals earn their degree on a part-time basis. In a rich and varied curriculum, the Department of Bioethics approaches the study of bioethics broadly by drawing on the perspectives of philosophy, the medical humanities, and social sciences. The department has close affiliation with area hospitals and the Center for Practical Bioethics.
