Loyola University Chicago School of Law, a leading urban Jesuit Catholic law school, is currently seeking candidates to fill its chair in health law and policy, named in honor of law school alumnus and donor Bernard J. Beazley.

The successful candidate will have an exemplary record of teaching, research and service warranting appointment at the rank of full professor with tenure and the accomplishment and future promise worthy of appointment at the chair level. The faculty appointment will be tenured and made at the rank of full professor. According to university rules, appointments to chairs are made for an initial period of five years, subject to renewal.

The responsibilities of the Bernard J. Beazley Chair include:

  1. Scholarly research and publication;
  2. Teaching courses in health law and policy and related areas of individual expertise;
  3. Providing leadership in research and teaching in the area of regulatory health law;
  4. Participation in faculty governance;
  5. Active involvement in student mentoring and counseling;
  6. Engagement with faculty on health law and policy matters both within the School of Law and throughout the University;
  7. Together with other chairs and senior faculty, providing leadership for integrative research activities; and
  8. Significant engagement with academic institutions and professional organizations in health law and policy, including frequent participation in meetings and symposia.

Qualifications

  1. Juris Doctor degree (J.D.); 
  2. Significant practice experience in health law and policy, especially in the area of regulatory health law;
  3. Broad recognition for scholarly distinction in a recognized area of health law and policy;
  4. Established publication record in health law and policy;
  5. Clearly developed long term research agenda; 
  6. Extensive teaching experience;
  7. Interest in and past experience in teaching in the first year curriculum;
  8. Strong commitment to social justice issues; and 
  9. History of active engagement with legal practice groups in areas related to health law and policy.


Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
