Duties & Responsibilities

The Staff Attorney will work closely with the program’s Executive Director, Policy Director, and faculty. The Staff Attorney’s work will be two-fold. First, the Staff Attorney will work on Criminal Justice Policy Program (CJPP) state policy advocacy projects. The Staff Attorney will work with academic researchers, advocates, and policymakers around the country to pursue judicial and legislative change by advising state and local governments, building and coordinating with coalitions, and researching and writing policy analysis. The Staff Attorney will also help CJPP serve as a resource to the field. The Staff Attorney will function as a conduit between researchers and practitioners to leverage social science evidence that may inform these reform efforts. The Staff Attorney will also continue to develop CJPP’s web resource - https://cjdebtreform.org - to serve the needs of the advocacy community. In addition, the Staff Attorney will assist in planning conferences, speakers, and other programming. Along with the Executive Director and Policy Director, the Staff Attorney will supervise the work of law students who contribute to the program’s policy initiatives.

Basic Qualifications

J.D. and bar admission with a minimum of three years' relevant experience required.

Additional Qualifications

Excellent research and writing skills are required. Demonstrated commitment to criminal justice reform is strongly encouraged.

Additional Information

This is a term appointment currently expected to extend to 1/31/2020, with the possibility of renewal, subject to funding and departmental need.
