Employment: Postdoctoral Fellowship in Medicine, Society & Culture at CWRU, Department of Bioethics, Case Western Reserve University
General Description:
The Department of Bioethics at Case Western Reserve University seeks applicants for the inaugural offering of a postdoctoral fellowship in Medicine, Society and Culture (MSC).
First developed as a concentration within the department’s Master’s Degree program in Bioethics and Medical Humanities, MSC is emerging as an intellectual hub for interdisciplinary engagement across the humanities, social sciences, law, public health, bioethics and related health fields. Through academic and community programming, partnerships across greater Cleveland’s four major medical centers, and wide-ranging scholarship, MSC exists to advance understanding of the complex and intertwined factors that affect conceptions of illness and health, disease and cure.
The goal of this fellowship is to provide the mentoring, experiences and skills necessary for promising students to grow into scholarly leaders eager to embrace the evolving challenges of health care across our country and around the globe. The successful applicant will become part of a community committed to exploring some of society’s most difficult questions by drawing upon the knowledge and insights of multiple academic realms. Fellows will be able to participate in ongoing projects and also pursue independent research. In addition, fellows will advise and support Master’s students, and have opportunities to enhance their teaching skills as well.
This one-year fellowship will commence on or around August 15, 2018 nd include competitive compensation and benefits. Interested applicants shall have secured their doctorates no later than July 1, 2018 and present materials that demonstrate high levels of scholarship in areas relating to medicine, society and culture.
Specifically, the candidates should submit the following materials to mscpostdoc@case.edu no later than May 25, 2018.

• A statement of interest of no more than 1,000 words
• Three letters of recommendation, including one from the student’s primary adviser
• A sample of academic writing (published or not) of no fewer than 5,000 words.
