About the Agency

The Domestic Social Policy Consulting Section of the Congressional Research Services' (CRS) Knowledge Services Group (KSG) is seeking an Information Research Specialist to support the work of Congress in the issue area of health policy and medicine. Candidates with a Master of Library Science (MLS) or equivalent degree and background in health policy and medicine are encouraged to apply.

The selectee for this position will provide reference and research services to CRS policy analysts and congressional clients. Duties of the position include: searching pertinent online resources; reviewing publications and electronic resources; maintaining currency with trends in assigned subject areas; developing knowledge of collections for use in performing research tasks; and assisting in the creation and maintenance of databases, web pages, collaborative tools, and other information systems to meet the demands for research and information support.

CRS works exclusively for the United States Congress, providing policy and legal analysis to committees and Members of both the House and Senate, regardless of party affiliation. As a legislative branch agency within the Library of Congress, CRS has been a valued and respected resource on Capitol Hill for more than a century.

CRS is well known for analysis that is authoritative, confidential, objective and nonpartisan. Its highest priority is to ensure that Congress has immediate access to the nation's best thinking on public policy issues of interest to its Members and Committees.

DUTIES:

Responds to a full range of complex or difficult research inquiries. Analyzes and solves complex research problems within a specialized policy research subject area. Provides research assistance to CRS analysts and congressional clients. Assists with overall product design and presentation. Organizes and coordinates assignments that involve complex and novel or obscure problems and/or requirements.

Provides comprehensive reference, research, advisory, evaluative, and instructional services to CRS analysts and congressional clients. Creates and maintains databases, web pages, shared folders and other information systems to assist CRS analysts in locating, organizing, managing and presenting information and/or information resources that meets targeted, well-defined research needs of CRS analysts in a variety of subject matters.

Initiates, establishes and maintains professional relations with information professionals, cooperative partners, and other professional contacts in order to share resources and information as well as to coordinate workflow within the library.

Provides advice and instruction for CRS analysts, other information professionals, and subordinate staff, in the use of electronic and print resources. Recommends additional aids to meet training needs.
