Lindsay Heck

Lindsay Heck was a Student Fellow during the 2010-2011 academic year. At the time, she was a third year student at Harvard Law School with a strong interest in bioethics, particularly in the areas of clinical trials involving human subjects, health disparities, reproductive health, and stem cell research. A graduate of Brown University with a BA in English Literature, she received Departmental Honors in English Literature for her thesis on Beloved and Mrs. Dalloway. In the summer of 2009 she worked at the World Health Organization in Geneva where she researched legislation and regulations related to clinical trials in 19 African countries to identify gaps in their regulatory structures. Her research as a fellow will focus on the FDA’s formal decision in 2008 to abandon the Declaration of Helsinki in favor of the International Conference on Harmonisation’s Good Clinical Practice Guidance. She plans to explore the noteworthy differences between the Declaration of Helsinki and the ICH GCP, as well as the ramifications of the FDA’s rejection of the Declaration of Helsinki.
