Emily Largent, PhD, JD, is Assistant Professor of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. In 2014-2015, she was the Peter Barton Hutt Student Fellow at the Petrie-Flom Center, and in 2015 and 2016 she was a Research Associate on the the Regulatory Foundations, Ethics, and Law Program, Petrie-Flom's collaboration with Harvard Catalyst | The Harvard Clinical and Translational Science Center at Harvard Medical School, and Petrie-Flom's work on the collaborative Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Oversight Study (PCOROS) under Dr. Joel Weissman at Brigham and Women's Hospital. She holds a BSFS from the Georgetown School of Foreign Service and a BSN from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. Emily has published articles on topics including emergency research without informed consent, IRB members’ attitudes toward payment of research participants, access to orphan drugs, and research-care integration. She is a co-author of Clinical Research Ethics Consultation: A Casebook, a collection of case studies in research ethics. Her current research interests include payment of research participants, as well as offers of payment in other medical contexts. During her fellowship, she wrote about the National Organ Transplant Act (NOTA) in a paper entitled "NOTA: Not a Good Fit for Tissues."
