During his fellowship year, Michael J. Young was a second-year medical student at Harvard Medical School. His research examined the ethical dimensions and philosophical framework underlying standards of care in medicine and public health. Prior to arriving at Harvard, Michael completed an MPhil in philosophy at the University of Cambridge as a Gates Cambridge Scholar, where he focused on philosophical issues relating to medicine and the mind. He has worked previously as a Patient-Family Advocate in the Emergency Department at Johns Hopkins Hospital and as a research assistant in the Division of Medical Ethics & Health Policy at the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied resource strain and decision procedures surrounding allocation of scarce resources in intensive care units. Michael was awarded the Henry K. Beecher Prize in Medical Ethics from Harvard Medical School.
