Vaccine against Meningitis: Quebec Pays Twice As Much As United Kingdom
From the article:
Quebec has agreed to pay twice as much as the United Kingdom for a new vaccine against meningitis, the effectiveness of which seemed uncertain.
The disclosure of the price paid by Quebec - about $80 a dose - was fought hard by a bioethicist, who had to drag the Ministry of Health and Social Services and the pharmaceutical industry to the Commission for Access to Health. information (CAI). He has obtained a decision that should make jurisprudence.
The researcher who fought in front of the CAI is pleased that GSK did not appeal the CAI decision. "I sincerely hope that this will be the beginning of a proactive and authentic step by the industry to make its practices more transparent. And that the CAI decision helps to increase the accountability of decision-makers," commented Mr. Bélisle-Pipon, currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Petrie-Flom Center at Harvard Law School.
