Addgene is currently seeking an entry level, mission-driven individual to join our team. The successful candidate will primarily support Addgene’s day-to-day technology transfer activities by facilitating material transfer agreements (MTAs) for new material deposits, establishing and maintaining business relationships with outside organizations and raising awareness of Addgene’s technology transfer process through additional projects and professional outreach. The successful candidate will also work with Addgene’s Senior Corporate Counsel in researching a wide range of legal issues, drafting legal memoranda, and developing proactive and sustainable solutions to potential risks and regulatory matters.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will contribute to Addgene in the following roles:

Technology Transfer and Administration

  • Facilitate the deposit of new materials by processing, negotiating and executing MTAs

  • Provide administrative support to external users, which can include responding to emails and answering phone calls regarding Addgene’s deposit or request process, customer-user accounts or contractual terms

  • Manage relationships with external technology transfer offices through phone calls, emails, meetings and presentations

  • Research and develop content for Addgene’s technology transfer newsletter, website, and additional marketing materials

  • Assist with other projects as needed, which includes working with other Addgene teams in their outreach efforts, special projects and other assignments

Legal Support

  • Draft, review and negotiate contracts

  • Research and draft memoranda in a variety of legal areas, which may include labor and employment, export control, tax, intellectual property, real property, and data security

  • Identify and compile applicable corporate documents, agreements and other data to support various regulatory filings and proceedings

  • Develop content and presentations for internal company meetings and employee training

 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree plus one to two years of experience in a corporate setting, and

  • Certificate of completion from an ABA-approved paralegal program required, certification preferred, OR

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school

  • Willingness and ability to travel overnight and weekends within the US and internationally as needed (typically 10-20 days per year but can vary depending on company/team projects)

  • Excellent research, writing, and data organization skills with great attention to detail

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to interact effectively, diplomatically, and productively with faculty, university administrators, and other technology transfer professionals

  • Must be self-motivated

  • Experience with general computer software, including MS Office, Google applications, and other web applications

  • Experience with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or other graphic design software is desirable but not required

  • Experience with legal databases such as Fastcase and HeinOnline is desirable but not required 

  • Experience in the life sciences and/or technology transfer is desirable but not required

Start Date: Fall 2017

Job Location: Addgene is located at 75 Sidney Street in Cambridge. We are walking distance from the Central Square Red Line, and parking is available.
