General Description:

The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program offers teaching, research or combination teaching and research awards in over 125 countries for the 2019-2020 academic year. Opportunities are available for college and university faculty as well as for professionals and independent scholars. While proposals for medical research involving clinical training, patient care, or patient contact are not eligible for the program, many opportunities are available in the Medical Sciences. STEM Opportunities for U.S. Fulbright Scholar Applicants

Awards that may be of interest to the H-Sci-Med-Tech community include below a selection of regional highlights:

Africa, Sub-Saharan

Cote d’Ivoire Mechanical Engineering and Technology Instruction

Teach undergraduate courses in mechanical engineering technology and possibly in mathematics. The mechanical engineering technology program is new to IUGB. The scholar should be comfortable in contributing to a new program, where students need to be recruited into the program, and not all of the equipment is at hand. The scholar should be willing to work with people who might be able to suggest local alternatives for teaching situations, including local industries.

Rwanda STEM, Medical Sciences and Physical Therapy, Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine

This six- to ten-month grant offers the opportunity to teach undergraduate (and possibly graduate) courses in preferred specializations. Assist in curriculum development, faculty training, and student advising and practice supervision. 

East Asia and the Pacific

Australia Distinguished Chair or Postdoctoral Scholarship in Multiple Disciplines at the University of Newcastle
Undertake a research project in your area of expertise, at the University of Newcastle, an established research leader in health and medicine, engineering, energy and resources. Projects are sought in the following areas of priority: Cancer research, Stroke and Brain Injury, Reproductive Science, Chemical Biology, Brain and Mental Health Research, and many others.  

Burma All Disciplines
Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses, or do a combination of teaching and research at a University in Burma. Applications are sought in all appropriate disciplines, however environmental science and public health are preferred specializations. A letter of invitation should not be sought for this award.

Europe

Austria Fulbright-FH JOANNEUM University of Applied Sciences Graz Visiting Professor in Computer Science

Four months in flexible combination of teaching and research in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Sciences

United Kingdom Fulbright Cancer Research UK Scholar Award
This three- to twelve month grant is designed to enable US academic researchers to pursue cancer research at any accredited higher education institution in the UK. Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to cancer research and the largest independent funder of cancer research in Europe.

Spain Medicine at Universidad de Murcia

Three months teaching at postgraduate level in the Master of Public Health Program and present his / her research in seminars and to attend research seminars led by the School of Medicine professors. It is expected that the scholar will have ample opportunity for collaboration with the School of Medicine research groups.

Spain Computer Science at Universidad de Murcia

Two or three months, depending on the professor’s expertise, to conduct teaching and research at the School of Computer Science, Universidad de Murcia in the disciplines Computer Science, Engineering and Mathematics

Finland Fulbright-Saastamoinen Foundation Award in Health and Environmental Sciences
This five- to nine-month grant involves teaching and research at one of the many departments in the University of Eastern Finland, including the School of Medicine, the School of Pharmacy, and the Department of Nursing Science. A shorter grant is available under the Fulbright-Saastamoinen Foundation Distinguished Chair in Health Sciences, where the award is for two months.
