General Description

C-TAC’s 2017 National Summit was the premier event for visionaries in advanced illness care who are actively reshaping the way care is provided. Held in Washington, DC this past November, attendees heard from the greatest minds in the industry and key influencers from a range of specialties including policy, delivery system reform, community engagement, caregiver support, and more. The event was co-chaired by former U.S. Senate Majority Leaders Tom Daschle and Bill Frist.

C-TAC and Cigna Caregiving Research

Earlier this year, C-TAC and the Cigna Foundation released new research on family caregivers that painted a vivid portrait of the struggles facing caregivers emotionally, physically, and professionally. Attendees learned more about this research and what it tells us about the need of people supporting their loved ones.

The Ripple Effect

Opioids, Right to Try, and Aid in Dying – Developing innovative programs isn’t all that clinicians are engaged with on the front lines. A handful of states have passed right-to-try and aid in dying legislation, adding both moral and programmatic challenges for patients and providers. Meanwhile, an opioid epidemic is raging nationwide and governments are trying to curb prescription painkiller abuse. Two healthcare providers discussed the ripple effects that implementation of these policies are having on providing high quality, person-centered advanced illness care.
