BOOTCAMP DESCRIPTION

The Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law Policy, Biotechnology, and Bioethics at Harvard Law School is pleased to invite applications for Psychedelics Bootcamp 2024, a three-day intensive training on legal, ethical, and policy issues surrounding psychedelics in medicine and society from Monday, July 29, through Thursday, August 1.

Made possible by a generous gift from the Gracias Family Foundation, Psychedelics Bootcamp 2024 is a new part of the work of Petrie-Flom’s Project on Psychedelics Law and Regulation.

For 3 days, a select group of 20-30 invited individuals from a range of perspectives and backgrounds will gather to learn the information and skills necessary to become thought leaders in the field of psychedelics with a nuanced understanding of potential benefits and risks.

Topics will include:

  • State of the science: Clinical trials and medical research
  • Federal, state, and local government legal, policy, and regulatory approaches
  • Indigenous use
  • Religious use
  • The pharmaceutical industry, drug regulation, and intellectual property law
  • Skills training in leadership and negotiation

APPLICATIONS

Applications are due at 12 midnight EDT on March 31. Our team will review the applications, select the group invited to participate and share application decisions no later than May 1.

We welcome applicants with and without experience with psychedelics-related topics. Our policy is to intentionally select people from a range of viewpoints and backgrounds.

We will reimburse participants’ roundtrip economy-class travel expenses within the United States and provide lodging at the Sheraton Commander hotel and meals on program days in Cambridge, MA.

Requirements for all Applicants:

  • Participants must be 21+ of age.
  • We cannot sponsor people for Visas.
  • Accepted contributors to PFC’s June 2024 Annual Conference are not eligible.

If you are invited to participate, you are expected to attend the entire Bootcamp, including dinner Monday July 29 starting at 6pm EDT and through the close of the program on Thursday August 1 at 3pm EDT.

KNOW BEFORE YOU APPLY

Before applying, please make sure you can meet the expectations to prepare for and attend the bootcamp itself.

If invited to attend the bootcamp, you should:

  • Anticipate blocking your calendar for the entirety of the bootcamp, expect to attend in full, and be present for every session. The Bootcamp will take place from Monday, July 29 through Thursday, August 1, 2024, including:
    • 2 full days of session from 9am-5pm on Tuesday, July 30 and Wednesday, July 31, and 1 half day of session from 9am-3pm on Thursday, August 1 
    • Dinner Monday, July 29, and Wednesday, July 31
    • Dinner on Tuesday, July 30 is on your own
  • As preparation you will need to complete pre-reading and a 12-18-hour online course, “Zero-L” which we will provide. It explains foundational legal concepts and rudiments of the US Legal System and is required preparation.
  • The bootcamp will be conducted in English.
  • Participants should expect the experience to be challenging. We expect a lot of interaction, exchange of ideas and discussion with and among the participants. Please be respectful of other’s opinions, perspectives and experiences and remember that we all benefit from hearing a variety of voices. Disagree respectfully.
