Dr. Laura Karas is a law student at Harvard Law School (JD 2022) and a licensed physician. Prior to coming to law school, Laura conducted health policy research with the team of Professor Gerard Anderson at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She has published articles in leading journals on a variety of health policy topics, including the interplay of limited distribution networks and FDA Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS), the Orphan Drug Act, and reverse payment patent settlements. At HLS, Laura serves as an editor of the Harvard Law Review. Her research interests include healthcare antitrust, conflict of interest management within the medical profession, and balancing individual rights and the public good in measures designed to foster public health. Laura’s research project will explore the impact of HIPAA authorizations in patient support program enrollment on patients and drug makers.
