2007 – 2008

Neel Shah, MD, MPP is a faculty investigator and SPARK grantee in the childbirth program at Ariadne Labs: a joint center for health systems innovation at the Harvard School of Public Health. His work aims to improve the safety and affordability of childbirth in the United States and other high-income countries that currently face unacceptably high rates of cesarean deliveries and neonatal intensive care unit admissions.

Dr. Shah is also a member of Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and maintains an active clinical practice as an ob/gyn that includes delivering babies, providing primary care and performing surgery. He is a faculty affiliate of the Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law Policy at Harvard Law School and also the founder and Executive Director at Costs of Care, a nationally recognized nonprofit that uses advocacy, education, and technology to help clinicians deflate medical bills. Dr. Shah completed residency at Brigham & Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. He graduated with joint degrees in medicine and public policy at Brown University and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government of Government.

Dr. Shah was a Student Fellow at the Petrie-Flom Center in 2007-2008. During his fellowship year, he completed a project entitled “The Impact of Privacy Challenges Posed by Health Information Technology on Medical Practice.”
