Diana Freed is an Assistant Professor of Computer and Data Science at Brown University. She is also a visiting scholar at the Petrie-Flom Center at Harvard Law School, a Faculty Associate at the Harvard Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society and a Research Affiliate at the Hire Aspirations Institute at the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. She completed her PhD at Cornell University. Professor Freed is the Director of the Sociotechnical Systems and Wellbeing Research lab at Brown University focusing on the intersection of technology and society to improve online safety and wellbeing for vulnerable and marginalized populations. Professor Freed’s current projects focus on aging and tech, medical AI, technology policy, digital safety, and reproductive health. Her research has been recognized with awards at top-tier conferences.

Professor Freed also serves on the advisory board of the World Childhood Foundation and as a member of the New England Public Interest Technology Leadership Committee. She collaborates with the New York City Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence and serves on the Health and Technology Steering Committee and the Health and Gender-Based Violence Working Group. Her advocacy work has been recognized with an Advocate of New York City Award from the New York City Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence.
